Man airlifted after serious crash in Mildura

A MAN sustained serious leg injuries following a head on collision with a truck on the Calder Highway Monday afternoon.

In a separate incident, a truck driver escaped injury when a b-double rolled over at a Mildura roundabout.

About 5.30pm Monday emergency services were called to a crash involving a truck and sedan, north of Hattah.

Acting Sergeant Salvador Lopez said the driver of the sedan, a man in his mid-40s, sustained lower body injuries and has since been airlifted to Melbourne for assessment and treatment.

"They were travelling in opposite directions, the truck was travelling north and the sedan south towards Ouyen, when the car veered into the truck's lane, colliding with it," Acting Sergeant Lopez said.

"The male (sedan) driver was trapped with leg injuries and was conveyed to hospital in a serious condition."

In another incident about 3.45pm Monday, the second trailer of a b-double truck tipped over following a mechanical failure while navigating the new Seventeenth Street and Deakin Avenue roundabout.

The truck was travelling south on Deakin Avenue and heading to Renmark, carrying a load of rolled cardboard when the incident occurred.

"The b-trailer has broken off from the turntable on the a-trailer causing the second trailer to tip over as its gone around the roundabout," Acting Sergeant Lopez said.

The driver escaped injury, with the truck coming to rest partly on the footpath, with traffic able to slowly pass through without the need for the roundabout to be closed.
